GLIMMER TRAIN STORIES AND WRITERS ASK SUBSCRIPTIONS?
Samantha at our fulfillment house looks after your subscriptions. Clicking here will take you straight to her email. If you have trouble reaching Samantha for any reason, you're welcome to contact us directly, of course. Email is best, please: firstname.lastname@example.org
Because the post office normally does not forward periodicals, we very much appreciate getting a new address as soon as you know it.
QUESTIONS ABOUT STORY SUBMISSIONS?
Please don't worry—contest categories always have a week's grace period after the official deadline.
WILL I GET FEEDBACK?
We personally read every submission ourselves, which we love, but we regret that time constraints make it impossible for us to give feedback.
SENT WRONG FILE, OR STORY HAS SIGNIFICANT ERRORS?
Typos, minor formatting oddities, and other small errors (accidental name changes, or spelling/grammar errors) do not worry us. It's the story that counts, and when we fall for one, we'll invite the author to propose edits. But if you are concerned and do want to edit or replace your story, you can change your submission.
DO YOU ACCEPT
Stories that have appeared online?
Yes. We think great stories should have a chance to persist in the real world, rather than drift out of reach online.
Stories that I’ve self-published?
If you’ve sold over 75 copies, downloadable or in print, congrats! But please send us a different piece.
Most stories have some significant footing in experience, which is fine, of course, but the piece must feel like fiction, be presented as fiction, and not include clearly identifying character information.
Stories that have been submitted elsewhere?
Yes, just let us know immediately, please, if a piece has been accepted for publication elsewhere.
Submissions from abroad?
Absolutely. We love getting stories from writers around the world, and when we accept a piece for publication, we pay the same amount in US dollars that we pay to US citizens.
Stories intended for children to read?
We love poetry, but we only publish short fiction.
Novellas? Novel excerpts?
Our Fiction Open is an excellent category for novellas. Excerpts from unpublished novels are fine in any category as long as they feel like complete stories and meet the guidelines. If the novel has been published, the excerpt must be at least 20% different from the material as published, and have, of course, its own title.
Stories you’ve seen before, but not accepted?
Yes, this makes particular sense if you’ve made substantial changes to the story and/or the story has made finalist before. One note: If a story is submitted to a contest, it is automatically considered as a standard, too, so there’s no need to additionally submit it as a standard.
